  1. With the ability to withstand almost all types of climates, springs are found throughout the United States. They prefer very wet conditions and are often found in wet soil or decomposing logs. In winter, springs tend to go out on sunny days in large numbers, and they usually surround the plant bottoms in which the ice melted. Because of their small size, springs are hard to see and hard to find. When looking at a new layer of snow, it might look as if someone has sprinkled pepper flakes or ashes over the snow. During the summer, the pulsating tail tends to flow near moist areas, such as the pool or air conditioner drain line.
